PHD was the most efficient and simple car rental experience ever. It really makes the large international companies bureaucratic… and expensive!

Tunnels in Faroe Islands

Tunnel map

Tunnels in Faroe Islands

The Faroe Islands are connected by an intricate network of sub-sea tunnels. Dive into the depths of Vágartunnilin, Norðoyatunnilin, Eysturoyartunnilin, and Sandoyartunnilin, each tunnel serving as a vital link, reducing travel times between these captivating islands.

Vágatunnilin:
Stretching over 4.9 kilometers and reaching depths of 150 meters below sea level, Vágatunnilin has been a key link between Vagar Airport and the capital Tórshavn since its opening in 2002.

Norðoyartunnilin:
Linking Klaksvík on Borðoy with Eysturoy island, Norðoyartunnilin has served as a crucial link since its opening in April 2006, improving overall transportation efficiency by connecting the northern islands.

Eysturoyartunnilin:
A true marvel with its iconic roundabout, Eysturoyartunnilin connects Streymoy with the two sides of Eysturoy island. With a length exceeding 11 kilometers and depths plunging to over 180 meters, this sub-sea tunnel, inaugurated in December 2020, stands among the world’s longest.

Sandoyartunnilin:
The most recent addition to the network, Sandoyartunnilin, opened in June 2023, strategically linking Streymoy island with the southern Sandoy island. Spanning over 10 kilometers, this tunnel represents the latest advancement and ongoing commitment to connecting the Faroe Islands' transportation infrastructure.
